Applied Research & Development, Embedded
We turn what's already been proven into technology that can be deployed, scaled, and put to use.
Holden R+D is an embedded research and development team for companies that want to compete on technology they can prove, not technology they've licensed on faith. We run one gated, evidence-first methodology across materials, acoustics, energy systems and applied engineering: state of the art, laboratory proof, field-tested prototype, verified deployment.

The Gap
The gap has a shape, and it's measurable.
In almost every technical field there's a public, well-documented body of proven science sitting several years ahead of what any single company has actually deployed. Not because the science is hidden, but because nobody in that company's operation has the mandate, the lab access, or the field discipline to walk it from a paper to a production line.
That distance isn't spread evenly. Some technologies are ready to leave the lab tomorrow; others need years more theory before anyone should spend a dollar on a prototype. Knowing the difference, for your specific operation, your specific materials, your specific field conditions, is the actual product of research and development. Everything else is downstream of that.
We start every engagement by measuring that distance before we propose closing it.
What We Are
The team in between.
Not a strategy firm that hands you a report. Not a vendor that hands you their product. We're the team in between: the one that reads the literature, runs the bench test, builds the field prototype, and hands you back a technology with your own data behind it.

The Method, in brief
Four gates, from theory to your operation.
No technology skips a gate, and no gate is judged by a criterion decided after the fact.
- G1TRL 1–2
Theory & Technology Scouting
Literature and patent review, first-principles memo, a falsifiable hypothesis, an academic partner engaged
- G2TRL 3–4
Laboratory Proof of Concept
Controlled experimental data, a repeatable measurement protocol, a first patentability read
- G3TRL 5–6
Functional Prototype at Bench Scale
A prototype that works outside the lab, detailed engineering, a defensible deployment estimate
- G4TRL 7–8
Field Validation & Transfer
An instrumented installation on real operating assets, a technical dossier, trained personnel, a verified unit cost
Proof
Five patents. Dozens of applied-engineering collaborations.
Across materials science, acoustics, reactor systems and industrial engineering. This team has spent years moving technology across the exact distance this company now sells as a service. This is that discipline, offered as a function you can plug into your own business.

How It Starts
Three steps, and only the third one costs you a program.
- 01
A conversation about your operating thesis
What you're trying to become competitively, and where you suspect the technology gap actually sits.
- 02
A state-of-the-art and TRL reading
Of the specific technologies in play, scored against verifiable deployment rather than a vendor's self-assessment.
- 03
A prioritized agenda you fund one gate at a time
Ranked with the Priority Index, so the funding decision is made against the same yardstick every time.
Work
We can't always name names.
The same evidence-first process that de-risks your bet also leaves you an asset your competitors don't get to see. Selected engagements available on request.
